A demolition operation in Lagos ended in tragedy after a two-storey building partially collapsed in the Alimosho area early Thursday.
The incident occurred on Governors Road, Aboru, where workers were carrying out manual demolition.
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said one person died while two others were rescued after becoming trapped beneath debris.
Emergency responders were dispatched after a distress call shortly before 1am.
The incident again raises questions about construction safety, demolition procedures and enforcement of building regulations in Lagos, where building collapses have repeatedly claimed lives.
Safety Desk: Demolition is itself a high-risk construction activity. Proper structural assessment, controlled dismantling and safety exclusion zones are essential.
